Designer, garden writer, presenter, and RHS Ambassador Arit Anderson has created a vibrant display of more than 2,000 annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees for the 2024 RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival.

All plants were sourced from growers such as Rijnbeek Perennials and partners of the RHS Peat-Free Fellowship, highlighting a strong commitment to sustainable horticulture.

Sun-loving or made for the shade

The Bulb Mania Mix is planted at Keukenhof in December 2023, and will be preserved to rebloom, develop and flourish in years to come. To help you a bit in tracing the perennials used in the mix, look in the sunny parts of our border to find perennials such as Euphorbia (spurge), the graceful Linaria ‘Peachy’, Pulmonaria ‘Trevi Fountain’ (lungwort), the particularly long flowering Geranium ‘Wendy’s Blush’ (dusky cranesbill), the heart-shaped Dicentra ‘Alba’ (bleeding heart) and the uniquely coloured Heuchera ‘Maple Syrup’ (alumroot).

In the shade, fairy-like and often airy woodland plants such as the enchanting Thalictrum ‘Black Stockings’ (meadow rue), Mertensia virginica (Virginian bluebells) with its funnel-shaped violet-blue flowers, and the radiant queen of early spring: Helleborus orientalis ‘Pretty Ellen White’ (Christmas rose).

Keukenhof, Flower exhibition

This project was made possible by the appreciated cooperation with Keukenhof. The 2024 edition of Keukenhof marks its 75th jubilee, celebrating not only the colourful past but an even more promising future, with focus on innovation and intensified cooperation with the Dutch floricultural industry. Flower exhibition Keukenhof proves to be still evolving. The spring park is a favourite place to enjoy blooming tulips, daffodils, and other bulb flowers. It offers traditionally designed borders as well as modern landscaping and keeps on surprising its visitors with the newest creations. Keukenhof is set to open its doors for the 75th time on 21 March 2024. During the almost eight weeks it is open, well over 1,4 million people from around the world will visit the exhibition. The famous Dutch Garden Architect and a pioneer of a ‘new perennial movement’ Piet Oudolf has created his first garden in Korea in collaboration with another well-known Dutch landscape architect Bart Hoes. Alongside them a team of passioned landscape people including a huge number of volunteers.

The design was placed inside the Taehwagang National Garden on Taehwa River in Ulsan.

It took a couple of months to pick the plants and experiment with different themes and color combinations.

All factors were carefully taken in mind. From the blooming periods to height, texture, color and growing speed of plants to create an even experience.

The Taehwagang National Garden welcomed Hoes, Oudolf and a crew of garden and landscape architects to work on designing a nearly 200,000-square-foot garden from late 2019. After pandemic-related logistical delays were cleared, the crew was finally able to start planning in 2022.

We’re proud to have contributed on this project with the submission of plants and the fact that EuroParcs won the silver medal.

The submitted plants were fitted to the Floriade theme of sustainability, in this case for holiday cottages. The submission fit exceptionally well to the theme and created a harmonious visual. However it’s not only these cottages that EuroParcs had in mind, other locations and cottages that reside in nature for example are bound for change to support sustainability.

Stefano Martinaz, a landscape architect with an office in England and the Netherlands, was invited to design these outdoor areas. The terms for the designs were simple yet complex, creating cottages that seamlessly blend into the nature around it.

To achieve this feat he would require a well thought out plan on which plants he wanted to use. And so he did, together with Rijnbeek he discussed his plans. Whether these plants would be applicable and available. Some parts of the plans were polished for optimal functionality and compatibility.

The submission, which after being planted at the end of march, started to look like the first full grown and maintained it’s staggering look until the end date 9th of October without failing.

It was a total success with a silver medal to prove it!

We hope and expect this will convince EuroParcs to keep going and start more of these projects through out their locations in and outside of the country.

This iconic project “Park of Dutch Dreams” is planned and designed by well known Dutch garden architects. These architects include Bart Hoes, Jacqueline van der Kloet, Climmy Schneider, Nico Wissing and Tom de Witte all under supervision by the world’s most famous garden architect: Piet Oudolf.

In the project each designer got their own portion of ground to develop their vision into a sight to behold.  The vast collection of varying plants and flowers is chosen by landscape experts to ensure a year round experience of colours, shapes and fragrances to the visitors.
